A blessed Lent to you

I confess I have never heard this piece before . . .

It is called Miserere Mei Deus ("Have mercy on me, O God"), a setting of Psalm 51, by Gregorio Allegri. "The Miserere is written for two choirs, one of five and one of four voices, and is generally accepted to be one of the finest examples of Renaissance polyphony to survive to the present day." Divine love and history

Those who follow the historic lectionary will note that, without any creativity on our part, the Epistle for Quinquagesima*, which falls this year on Sunday, February 14, is 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.

*February 14, the Commemoration of St. Valentine, Priest and Martyr, is not commemorated this year.
